New Mentoring Program at Washington Twp Middle
Middle school can be a lot to navigate. That is why we are thrilled to announce a new mentoring program at Washington Township Middle School in conjunction with our friends at Our Greater Good!! We will be starting groups for 6th grade boys and girls initially and hope to start soon.
Mentors will come alongside these students to provide them a safe, consistent place to learn, grow and process the things they are dealing with at home, school and in the community. Here are a few facts about the program and the groups:
Meet weekly after school for about an hour - day of the week TBD by group
Consist of up to12 students and 4 mentors
Have snack, a check in time, a talk/discuss/learn time and maybe an activity
Groups ideally remain together until the students exit the program or graduate high school (mentors commit to one school year at a time)
Mentors go through a brief training and clear a background check

Each year, East Porter is proud to have so many incredible graduates making a difference in the world. Do you know an East Porter alumnus doing amazing things? We want to celebrate them! Nominate them for their achievements, accomplishments, or awards today!

It's a jungle at Washington!

Student Athletic Advisory Committee Student - Athletes of the Week
The Student Athletic Advisory Committee is bringing back the Athlete of the Week program and starting off strong by recognizing two outstanding Senator student-athletes. Senior Brody Mears was nominated for his first place performance at last week’s Cross Country PCC round robin meet, and his overall positive mental attitude and leadership.
Freshman Mackenzie Anderson was nominated for her performance in soccer; she shines both as a goalkeeper and on the field. In goal, she's quick and fearless, stopping shots with impressive agility. When she's out on the field, her passing and competitiveness make her stand out. Her energy and skill make her a great teammate, and she motivates everyone around her to play their best. Congratulations to these amazing athletes.

Mrs. Mateer is our next new staff member to introduce! Mrs. Mateer joins us after serving as the Morgan Township athletic director for many years. Her organization, communication, and attention to detail have already proven an asset in the athletic department. When she is not at school (which is rare!) you will find her, her husband, and dog spending time in their new camper.
Welcome, Mrs. Mateer!

WTMHS Progress Reports (Mid-Term) will be issued through Skyward on Friday, September 13th. Parents/Guardians--please check Skyward on Friday for mid-First Quarter grades. First Quarter grading period ends on Friday, October 11.

Our middle school cross country team hosted the first annual Senator Invite on their home course. Both boys and girls came in 1st place against St. Paul and Wheeler. The top 10 finishers were Annabelle Sexton, Wimberly Scott, Caroline Steele, Porter Wilks, Anthony Hreha, Jackson Reeder, and Kai Suga. Willy Wilks and Jody Stump won their races and set new course records. They are all looking forward to the Rensselaer invite on Saturday.

Goal achieved.
As you make your way West of the school you may have noticed the new Net System that rises above the Girls and Boys Soccer Field. This project demonstrates the great community support that we are fortunate to have in Washington Township. With the help of the Gilbert Family ( Scott, Aimee, Owen), Matt Woods and ModernEdge, Jeremy Reeder and Reeder’s Auto, Andrew Brinkley and Circle R, Ken Kukler, Jim Fleming, Julie and Lucas Ferguson, Coach Fleming, Coach Swann and the administration in Mrs. Mateer and Mr. Fields we were able to coordinate all of these willing participants over several weekends to complete this project before the start of the 2024 Soccer season.
This is a great reflection on what can be done in support of our student athletes.

The Nutrition Classes worked on knife skills this week, and cooked a variety of different items.
