Student Council was proud to have Eric Nicholson attend their January meeting.

A 1998 graduate of Morgan, and newly appointed Chairman of the Board for The Caring Place, Eric shared his personal story of losing his sister, Annie, to domestic violence.

Student Council raised $500 to donate in Annie’s memory.

Eric spoke on the importance of shedding light on domestic violence, as well as where victims can seek help and refuge.

“You may think you don’t know anyone who is a victim of domestic violence, but I promise you, you do.”

1 in 5 women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime, and it takes a victim an average of 7 attempts to leave their abuser before they finally escape the situation for good.

“Every time a victim returns to their abuser, there is the possibility for disaster.  Even though my own story is tragic, The Caring Place is a place of hope, light and love for these victims and their families.”

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

And now for a moment of silence

Thank you and It’s a great day to be a Cherokee
