Study Island is a subscription software program that utilizes standards-based instruction and assessment. Its elearning platforms also help prepare students for testing. In the classroom, teachers use this tool with students to practice and enhance reading and math skills. All students at East Porter County School Corporation have access to Study Island.
In February, Study Island announced their Spring contest: Edmentum Academic Sprints, featuring Study Island.
Study Island prompted teachers to participate in the contest. “Are you looking for a great way to boost standards mastery for your students? Do you want to add a little excitement to your review sessions before spring exams? Then get ready to sprint.”
Washington Township Middle School Language Arts teacher Christie Campbell registered for the contest and announced the competition to her classes. One student, Quinlan Scott, took the challenge and ran with it.
Within Study Island, students earn blue ribbons by showing a mastery of at least 70% on assignments within the program. 7th Grade student Quinlan earned 558 unique blue ribbons, which claimed her spot as Grand Prize Winner. In her quest to earn blue ribbons, Quinlan found herself working well into the high school curriculum. This is quite a feat, as 90 schools and 188,582 students across the nation competed! To reward her hard work, Quinlan will receive a free Chromebook and a $100 Amazon Giftcard. Congratulations, Quinlan!
